Erectile Dysfunction, or impotence, is a consistent inability to sustain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. In medical
sphere, the term Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is more preferable and it is used to differentiate various sexual problems, like lack of
sexual desire, problems with ejaculation, and some other problems which interfere with making love. Here we will consider the
problem of impotence.
There are several kinds of impotence: when man is unable to achieve erection at all, when this ability is inconsistent and when it
is occasional and brief erection. That is why it is difficult to define the stage of impotence and the kind of it. According to
statistics, about 10-15 million American men experience impotence. Consequently, visits to doctors with the problem of erectile
dysfunction are rather often.
The causes of impotence are very different. Mostly, it is physical cause, like disease, injury, drug side effects. But it may also
be any disorder which worsens blood flow into the penis. The older man is, the bigger the potential of impotence. For example, at
the age of 40, impotent men are only about 5%, but at the age of 65, this amount is about 15-25%. Thus, men cannot avoid it.
The fact is that men should first of all admit the existence of such a problem and then it may be treated. It is known that
impotence can be cured in all the age groups. Thus, if you realize the fact of impotence, you have greater chances to make your
sexual life better with the course of treatment, because urologists now know a lot about how to treat even complicated cases of
impotence.
